job description

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for effectively conducting quality testing and control of Asphalt Production and Asphalt Laying to ensure all product & quality standards are met and satisfy both internal and external customer requirements in a manner consistent with the laboratory quality system.

About the role and responsibilites

  • Apply policy and processes; follow DA policies and Procedures
  • Prioritise and plan work effectively
  • Enhance processes /business performance by providing ideas for improvements / growth
  • Coordinate quality control testing – Asphalt, Quarry aggregate, sand and other raw materials.
  • Recommend process changes and / or mix design changes.
  • Compile, check and input daily test results into the computer database and generate test reports.
  • Assess, register and input external raw material conformance results into database as required.
  • Monitor and audit raw material compliance by suppliers to internal and external specifications.
  • Undertake compaction testing to satisfy all relevant specification requirements, reporting, providing regular feedback on rolling patterns to crews.
  • Comply with NATA requirements as part of Laboratory accreditation and becoming NATA signatory for appropriate tests.
  • Maintain, utilise and contribute to the effective development of Downer business systems & procedures
  • Assist and promote internal quality auditing
  • Work with operations and contribute to establish active, effective business improvement opportunities to grow business; eliminate waste and minimise the cost of our operations
  • Effectively implement and follow DA policies and procedures
  • Maintain a high standard of paperwork and record keeping with regard to testing and project records in line with quality system requirements and laboratory standard procedures.
  • Assist with maintaining laboratory equipment and calibrations

You will neeed the ability to establish realistic timeframes and manage tasks accordingly
