A 1 year initial fixed term contract is available for a proven Communications and Media Manager:

Role Overview:

The Communications and Media Manager reports directly to the Director, Strategy and External Affairs, and will work to achieve the departments aims through implementing its communication and engagement plan as well as media management, monitoring, and analysis.

This is a varied role and the successful candidate will need to be flexible and adaptable to fluid challenges. The energy sector is experiencing rapid change and this role is critical in contributing to manage the public brand and stakeholder relationships during this time.

Department staff are highly skilled subject matter experts, it will be your job to make sense of often complex and technical subject matter and ensure it is accessible and consumable to a broad range of stakeholders.

The Communications and Media Manager will engage with a range of target audiences, including the media, about the dept and outcomes of decisions and work. It will also raise awareness; build and enhance reputation and public profile; and improve communication within and across the dept.

In particular, this will include implementation of the communications and engagement plan; assisting to develop communications strategies across the work; provision of key advice on public positioning; media liaison; preparing speeches, articles, monthly newsletters to stakeholders; and publishing information products, both online and in hard copy.

The Communications and Media Manager will be responsible for delivering both proactive and reactive media support in accordance with the policies and procedures.

The Communications and Media Manager will have a high level understanding of the energy sector and issues (or the capacity to quickly acquire this), will be a clear communicator and have substantial media, communications and/or public affairs experience and capabilities. Experience working in the media, and/or the media/communications team within a government department/agency dealing with economic or legal policy is desirable.

Strong interpersonal skills are vital, enabling the Communications and Media Manager to work collaboratively with Board members, senior managers, and other staff. The ability to communicate/translate/tailor highly technical information for different audiences is critical.

The Communications and Media Manager will work closely with the Director, Strategy and External Affairs, and Strategic Communications Branch to develop and implement communications and campaign strategies.
