Our client is a leading government agency tasked with critical decision-making policies on matters that have significant repercussion on the state's economy, environment and community. As such they have a requirement for a policy officer to provide hi-level advisory support across one or more projects.

Reporting to the Director, you will be responsible for developing and driving the implementation of policy to deliver more disaster-resilient communities.


About your new role:

  • Provide expert advice to the General Manager, Director, senior management team and key project stakeholders on strategic policy, legislation and operational matters in relation to disaster resilience, and risk reduction.
  • Liaise with, provide advice and respond appropriately to internal and external stakeholders on matters that relate to resilience project delivery objectives.
  • Provide project management assistance across, disaster resilience, risk reduction, funding and mitigation to ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Undertake research and engagement on cross-jurisdictional approaches to specific disaster resilience, risk reduction, funding and mitigation issues, seeking to identify emerging best practice.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative and productive relationships with external stakeholders, particularly other federal, state and local government agencies contributing to disaster resilience, risk reduction, funding and mitigation activities.
  • Support the Director or General Manager in meetings and at forums where appropriate.

About you:

  • You will have experience in demonstrating knowledge and experience of strategic policy and/or policy development, planning in disaster management is preferable.
  • You have the ability to break down projects into objectives and goals, and accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks.
  • You will be able to demonstrate relevant experience or qualification/s in Resilience or disaster risk reduction is desirable.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years policy experience
