SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator. We focus on harm prevention and improving the safety culture in NSW workplaces.

We are currently seeking a State Inspector within the Regional Operations and Sector Initiatives, Northern Operations directorate. Apply your industry experience and qualifications to work in partnership with NSW workplaces to assist them in creating and maintaining work health and safety standards so that workers return home safely each day. You will work with the community and government agencies in response to and prevention of workplace injury and illness incidents arising from construction work.

The State Inspector is the highest-level inspector grade in SafeWork NSW, you will play a pivotal role in working with and building the capability of internal and external stakeholders and customers.

You will utilise your high-level engagement skills to develop and implement state-wide strategic industry initiatives as they relate to safety and RTW. You will also conduct workplace visits and assist with investigations into workplace incidents, injuries and fatalities and where required, provide specialist advice regarding compliance with WHS legislation and association.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have the Advanced Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection), and/or equivalent relevant qualification or above in a related field, and/or, 5+ years relevant industry experience.
  • Have extensive experience to provide strategic leadership and expert advice on prevention and response activities
  • Have exceptional communication skills to proactively engage and influence key industry stakeholders
  • Have superior presentation skills and the ability to facilitate high level industry forums and seminars with confidence
  • Be a self-starter who is highly motivated, engaged in workplace safety and return to work and be accountable for decisions made.

Location: Field based position, however base office locations are Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie or Newcastle (negotiable with successful candidate).
