My client is a leading Government Agency and currently has a 3-4 month immediate contract requirement for a Systems Support Engineer to come on board and be responsible for maintaining the availability of their Information and Computer Technology systems (in co-operation with other analysts and administrators), including server hardware & software, VMWare & Hyper-V environments, Active Directory & Group Policy Objects, SAN storage, user access control, backup systems and associated business continuity technologies, including Data Centre infrastructure support.

To be considered for this role you will have the following skills and experience:

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintain and support Server hardware including HP Blade and Chassis systems, rack mount servers, virtual machines (VMWare and Hyper-V), SAN storage arrays and DLT tape libraries.
  • Maintain and support Server software, operating systems, database systems, Active Directory, virtualisation platforms, backup systems, anti-malware systems, etc.
  • Provide level 2 and 3 support in conjunction with the State Wide Service Desk (SWSD) and Desktop Services Unit (DSU) including updating ticket status and providing customer service.
  • Maintain and update documentation as required, including, but not limited to server inventories, software licensing and other technical documentation.
  • In co-operation with other administrators, maintain internal and external network and server system security to meet compliance with ISO27001 standards for information security.
  • Providing feedback and suggestions to improve the responsiveness of ICT to the business utilising proven “best practice” frameworks and methodologies such as ITIL

Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience and industry certifications (i.e. MCSE, VCP, CCNA, etc) in Windows with a strong current working knowledge of Windows Servers, Virtualisation technologies (VMWare, Hyper-V), MSSQL, Oracle DB, Citrix, HP Blade and SAN Technologies and backup hardware and software systems, such as Backup Exec, Actifio, HP Data protector, etc.
  • Experience supporting corporate Windows Active Directory environments (including GPO creation), DHCP & DNS server configuration and management, DFS cluster configuration & management, basic Powershell scripting knowledge, familiarisation with corporate Antivirus platforms, such as McAfee EPO
  • Experience creating, managing and supporting servers in VMWare environments and familiarisation with application support & deployment in Citrix environments
  • Highly developed problem solving skills in an enterprise or government context, including ITIL knowledge with qualifications or proven experience
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team member in a, time-critical environment with competing priorities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skill and effective decision making and judgmental skills
  • Ability to solve complex operational problems and implement effective IT solutions.
  • Attention to detail and demonstrated experience in preparing high quality detailed documentation including as-built documentation, software licensing reviews, system performance, capacity reports and process workflows.
