CNC MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Superintendent, the incumbent is responsible for providing the organization with all facets of manufacturing including equipment, tools, building and instructions to facilitate the production of high quality magnesium die-castings that meet customer requirements. Also, improve all operations through a planned program of continuous improvements and to provide ongoing support to the manufacturing group.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Completed Degree/Diploma in Engineering discipline plus minimum 4-7 years Automotive Engineering
• Valid driver’s license and excellent verbal and written communication
• Engineering project management experience
• Quoting experience – providing costing estimates for machining lines
• Knowledge/experience with high volume automated and/or robotic assembly cells/equipment, CNC machining, fixturing and tooling
• Able to conduct machine design reviews and follow project timing from concept to installation and PPAP
• Knowledge/experience with automation, mechanical, hydraulic systems, material flow, lean manufacturing techniques. Experience with controls systems is helpful, but not essential.
• Working knowledge of CAD and relevant software (Excel, Microsoft Project, Powerpoint)
• Know the ethical and legal obligations outlined in the Engineering Code of Ethics.
• Understanding of GD&T, automotive documents (e.g. Flows, PFMEA and Control Plans) and costing
• Understanding of the OH&S Act and regulations as well as legislative and customer requirements for specifications including PSHSR


JOB DUTIES

• Writing specifications and quoting for the purchase of new, or replacement of equipment. Overseeing the acquisition, timing and installation of new equipment. Sourcing and ordering capital equipment and tools for current and new manufacturing components. Working closely with suppliers/integrators to ensure that products are delivered on time and to specification.
• Continuous Improvement: Updating and optimizing new/existing processes to improve Cycle Time, Throughput, Standardized Work, Material Flow, Layout and Floor Space etc.
• Exploring and applying improvements from ideas based on the latest technology and best production practices. Participating in internal and external departmental team meetings to accomplish goals.
• Scheduling and attending internal (APQP) and external (supplier/integrator) meetings. Creating machining/assembly layouts, timelines, action plans and reaction plans to maintain and track project progress
• Customer liaison, dealing with customers, supplier and integrators on a first hand basis.
• Troubleshooting: Solving and correcting failed or inconsistent manufacturing equipment and systems, (using familiar statistical data analysis/techniques and/or formal problem solving methods)

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

• Project management designation, PMP or Prince 2
