Our client, one of Canada's largest financial services organizations, is hiring an Editor/copywriter for their downtown Toronto location.

In order to support our newsroom, our client is looking for a passionate editor and copywriter with a journalistic drive to act as a key member of our Global Digital Marketing team. In this role you will be responsible for leading the newsroom portion of their Canadian content marketing strategy. The newsroom mandate is to deliver timely and relevant stories via digital channels to the audiences. You are someone with a passion for exploring new ideas and telling compelling stories that reflect our clients unique understanding of the world.

In this role, you will:

· Look to the daily events that shape our industry and uncover the stories that are of the greatest interest to our audience

· Pick up on real-world topics and trends and apply professional journalistic standards to researching and writing to produce engaging and genuine editorial content

· Once an opportunity for a story has been identified, compile the necessary research and facts needed to develop the story (may involve; interviewing executives and thought leaders

· Ensuring the right timing and frequency for publishing stories is an integral aspect of the job. The incumbent should be able to assess and act on story opportunities quickly without compromising editorial integrity and quality

· Communicate closely across multiple internal groups to identify appropriate story opportunities suitable for an external audience

· Research and understand industry-wide issues and possible nuances on controversial topics

· Work closely with the social media and digital strategy teams to amplify and activate content and editorial from our digital channels out to our audiences

· Run with multiple story ideas in different stages of development in order to ensure a consistent flow of content coming out of the newsroom

· Interpret insights and performance metrics in order to continually improve the performance of newsroom content

· Monitor, report and deliver against established KPI

Qualifications

· A background in working journalism, with at least five years in a digital editorial environment

· A degree in journalism

· A portfolio that demonstrates strong writing and copy editing

· A background in finance/insurance/health preferred

· The ideal candidate will have strong writing abilities, impeccable research and interview skills and a firm understanding of journalistic practices

· The ideal candidate will be well informed on the news of the day, and possess an innate curiosity about current world events

· The ability to create, copy edit and publish original and compelling digital content that includes newsworthy stories, long-form articles, videos (on camera proficiency preferred), interviews, etc.

· The ability to deliver engaging and original editorial features on time and budget

· Exceptional editorial judgement with the ability to recognize the most compelling content opportunities out of a sea of news and daily headlines and get at the ones best suited for our brand

· Exceptional collaboration skills and openness, and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders to develop compelling and engaging editorial content
