Our client, one of the top tier banks in Canada, is hiring a Financial Reporting/Accounting Manager for a 7 month contract with long term potential.

• Financial Crimes Risk (FCR) - Compiles corporate financial data for senior management, the Group and regulatory agencies in a timely, accurate and effective manner in accordance with established accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Ensures proper accounting for transactions, prepares and disseminates reliable and relevant information and provides financial expertise to support management decision-making.

Job Requirements:

• Support required changes to accounting/reporting responsibilities as directed by management resulting from mergers and acquisitions, new ventures, special projects and changes to existing accounting/reporting regulations. Ensure quality control procedures cover on-going production processes.
• Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.
• Support management in responding to senior management, regulatory agencies and other user needs, particularly non-routine information requests. Support other Company areas (other finance areas, business units, the Group, Audit, Legal) by providing timely and accurate information, reports and assistance.
• Lead and develop an effective team through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices.
• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the brand.
• Ensure required accounting and internal/external regulatory reporting is completed efficiently, accurately, properly documented and submitted for review on a timely basis. Complete analytical reviews (utilizing qualitative and quantitative analysis) of assigned reports to ensure accuracy and identify trends and issues for management consideration. Interpret banking regulations and report instructions necessary to maintain accurate reporting, maintain the computer based systems used to generate the information and cross-train.
• Ensure assigned general ledger accounts are properly reconciled. Review various financial and regulatory reports prepared by other members of the department according to departmental procedures.
• Identify opportunities and implement procedures to improve data integrity as well as productivity and efficiency of reporting process; develop and implement procedures for newly initiated activities. Review and update existing accounting and reporting procedures for regulatory, operational and accounting policy changes for areas under scope of responsibility.
• The position makes recommendations and supports management decision- making by contributing to the accuracy, frequency, and comprehensiveness of the financial accounting and reporting processes and quantifying and communicating diverse financial issues/alternatives. The position frequently establishes priorities when presented with simultaneous requests from management. Decisions beyond assigned authority are referred to higher management for approval.
• Ensure that all employees are aware of and effectively identify and manage applicable money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF), sanctions and reputational risks.
• Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.
• Ensure compliance of both general and anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing (AML/ATF) compliance controls as well as operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.
• Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Key Skills & Qualifications:
• Minimum of four years proven and progressive accounting and reporting experience in a banking environment or equivalent, including a minimum of two years proven corporate level experience or equivalent.
• Bachelors degree in accounting or equivalent experience.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, analytical, project management, decision-making and interpersonal skills.
• Working knowledge of corporate accounting and reporting, including GAAP, SEC and RAP and Company businesses, products, affiliates, accounting policies and procedures.
• Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent mainframe systems and software packages.
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing and competitive environment, handle multiple requests and possess a proactive, hands-on approach to problem-solving.
