Health and Safety Specialist

Are you passionate about creating a safety-focused work environment? Do you enjoy creating and facilitating safety training? We have an exciting opportunity with one of our clients in North York for a Health & Safety Specialist. This role will provide guidance and support to the organization on all health and safety matters.

We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable about H&S legislation and who can work independently to build and maintain appropriate programs, policies and documentation. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in a health and safety focused role, including experience in a manufacturing, warehouse or plant environment.

What you’ll be doing:
* H&S Policies – Develop and maintain H&S policies, establish standard operating procedures, ensure compliance with legislation and company policy, create awareness around H&S
* Training – create and facilitate H&S training for employees and managers, manage the training database and monitor renewal dates for certifications, prepare and update training manuals, ensure new employees receive complete training
* Analysis – identify risk factors associated with the various roles and work with line managers to develop strategies to minimize those risks
* Employee relations – act as a point of contact and resource for H&S matters
* Management Support – advise managers on H&S matters, provide coaching to deal with specific employee issues
* Investigations – coordinate inspections and investigations, ensure all documentation is complete
* H&S committee meetings – coordinate and participate in meetings
* Manage WSIB, NEER programs, MOL
* Other projects as required

Do you have the right qualifications?
* 3-5 years of experience in a health and safety focused role, ideally in a manufacturing, warehouse or plant environment
* High level of knowledge and experience in all areas of health and safety (OHSA, MOL, WSIB, NEER)
* Ability to improve processes and develop safe work procedures
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Strong MS Office skills
* Experience creating and facilitating training programs
* Able to work independently in a fast-paced, challenging environment
* Willing to be a flexible team player, positive attitude
* Hands-on, floor approach to H&S
