Our valued client is currently seeking an OAM Software Engineer on a permanent basis located in Kanata, Ontario. Our client is a leading manufacturer of SDN networking and security solutions for Tier 1 Carrier networks.

The Position

As a member of the core software development team you will help create the software that enables the flexible network appliance which can operate either as a high-performance network security enforcement point, or as a high performance SDN data plane. The OAM team develops the software to manage the patented packet search and flow forwarding technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Design and implement OAM software components that meet the agreed specifications
• Document designs in a clear and concise fashion
• Develop and execute test plans for designer testing of component blocks
• Contribute to automated test suites
• Support developed blocks through the lifecycle of the product including addressing defects that
are reported
• Maintain the code base during the development and submittal of components
• Develop accurate and timely estimates of design resource requirements and project schedules
• Support and assist other colleagues and customers to fix and improve products


• Proven experience as an embedded software developer for OAM software
• Customer experience focused
• Experience with programming languages/tools including C/C++, Python, git, tcpdump/Wireshark.
• Experience developing system level software in Linux development environment including work on X86 platforms, Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) distributions and kernel drivers
• Knowledge of the Linux networking stack is an asset
• Experience with OpenvSwitch
• In depth knowledge of developing software for multi-core, multi-threading systems
• Experience with contributions to Open Source software
• Excellent understanding of traffic generation equipment (e.g. Spirent, Ixia, etc)
• Experience with coding SNMP MIBs
• Detailed protocol experience with many of:
o OpenFlow 1.3, sFlow, NETCONF
o networking technologies (e.g. TCP/IP), routing protocols (e.g. OSPF, BGP, ISIS), L2
switching technologies, OAM, IPv6, 6rd, LISP
o IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.1Q (VLAN), MPLS, SyncE, IEEE 1588
• Detailed understanding of best practices for REST interfaces
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Excellent presentation, organizational and planning skills
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic team environment

Education and Experience

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, post grad experience is a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in OAM software development
