Pipe Stress Engineer / Specialist

Randstad Canada Engineering is currently recruiting for a full time PIPE STRESS ENGINEER for an Alberta based opportunity to work in an Engineering Consulting environment until December 31, 2018 which serves customers in the Oil, Gas & Chemicals, Mining & Metals and Power Industries delivering solutions from small to large projects in the oilsands and greenfield new-builds to revamps.

Job Requirements

o Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
o 5 - 10 years of relevant pipe stress engineering experience in Oil & Gas
o EPC experience an asset
o Registered as a professional Engineer with APEGA
o Excellent in the use of CAESAR, Windows and MS office
o Experience with P.Eng. stamping on all Piping discipline documents such as isometrics, stress calculations, plot plans, detail drawings, equipment location plans
o Core Expertise in Pipe stress analysis
o Knowledge with ASME Codes and API codes as applicable to pipe stress analysis
o Experience in Pipe support design from first principles
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Plans and executes complex pipe stress analysis on slurry/tailing pipeline and upgrading/refinery projects with minimum supervision.
Creates CAESAR II stress models, applies 3D Finite Element Analysis, extracts information from piping 3D models as required, and generates stress markups/sketches.
Works independently or with a small group.

Duties & Responsibilities

o Works independently in the analysis of pipe stress, ensures code compliance from basic information, which includes but is not limited to Plot Plans, P&ID’s and LDT’s, piping engineering specifications, applicable codes and standards, and equipment data sheets or vendor drawings.
o Ensures compliance with approved design standards in his/her work and by those assigned, to provide quality design, reliable plant operation, construction economy, and maintenance/operating convenience.
o Reviews and checks calculations, drawings and design documents prepared by assigned analysts or drafters for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality, and satisfactory completion.
o Compiles and maintains job files, records, and progress reports for work assigned.
o Reviews and stamps piping isometrics

Skills / Job Knowledge

o Ability to perform complex mathematical engineering calculations.
o Sound knowledge and experience in the application of CAESAR II and FEPipe.
o Sound knowledge of spreadsheet applications and their use.
o Knowledge and experience in the application of basic AutoCAD, Microstation, or other drafting software applications.
o Knowledge and experience in 3D CADD applications.
o Sound knowledge of Plant Layout & Piping section work practices and standards, and interfaces with other engineering sections and procurement.
o Knowledge of piping materials and components.
o Knowledge of equipment and piping layouts for operating plants.
o Sound understanding of ASME and other engineering codes and their interpretation and application, environmental regulations, local and national codes and regulations.
o Experience with slurry/tailing pipeline stress analysis is an asset.
