Do you have personal claims or commercial claims experience? The National Home Warranty claims department is looking for a recovery examiner to join their team. We are currently seeking a recovery examiner for our Vancouver office. This role has the potential to extend or go permanent.

As a recovery examiner you will be responsible investigating, evaluating, negotiating and settling recovery opportunities while exercising good economic judgment. You are an excellent negotiator, who is knowledgeable in recovery under contract and tort, and who is familiar with litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes. You should be able to facilitate the resolution of files in dispute following the company's philosophy on claims handling. Additionally, you are responsible for a number of analysis and assessment functions with regards to liability, quantum, coverage, and anticipated recovery.

Responsibilities: What would I do on the job?

• handling files that have been referred to the recovery unit from internal adjusters that have potential recovery opportunities, either from a third party or a party with who had a contractual obligation to National Home Warranty
• directing adjusters to undertake investigations to establish the validity of the recovery potential
• analyzing the liability, quantum and the financial status of parties involved to determine the anticipated recovery
• negotiating settlement, using the most effective means, with the involved parties to ensure recovery or payment reflective of our exposure/risk while ensuring delivery of superior customer service to all stakeholders
• referring files, where appropriate, to legal counsel and directing legal counsel on litigation strategies
• attending settlement conferences, mediations, pre-trials and trials
• maintaining the recovery database and claims financial records through the process of recording claims, maintaining adequate reserves, prompt expense payments, and accurate closing of recovery files
• providing support to the recovery unit, including assisting other members in the recovery team, when necessary
• responsible for controlling external expenses

Qualifications
• preferred experience in handling recovery files
• preferred 3-5 years claims experience in handling personal &/or commercial claims or surety.
• general knowledge of the warranty/property insurance processes
• preferred general knowledge of construction industry and practices and/or surety
• preferred experience in litigation and dealing with counsel and legal processes and proceedings related to collections and subrogation
• excellent oral and written communication skills
• good investigation and negotiation skills
• attention to detail with a desire to take initiative
• ability to work with cross functional teams
• highly organized
• strong computer skills
• excellent negotiation skills
