WJ Groundwater is a UK based construction dewatering subcontractor. WJ designs, installs, commissions and operates deepwell, recharge, ejector and wellpoint systems around the world. Our customers are predominately major construction companies and are expecting an order to deliver the groundwater control systems required for the construction of the Sydhavnen extension of the metro system. We have been appointed to commence the design works for this project and this is currently ongoing. We are therefore looking to recruit a Project Manager to help deliver the works in Copenhagen.

As Project Manager


You will report directly to the UK based Directors who will provide support and regularly visit Copenhagen for progress meetings, client meetings and other business development requirements. You will be responsible for all staff within Denmark including Site Engineers and Operatives. You will be expected to liaise with, and utilise, our Head Office staff with regard to administration and HR requirements; and to positively engage with our Health and Safety Manager.

The principal function of this position is to be the key person to deliver the project, liaising with the design and installation team as well as the client. You will act as team leader and the main point of contact for our clients.


The following competencies and behavioural skills are required:


- Comprehensive understanding of Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering
- Experience in the supervision of geotechnical activities
- Experience and confidence in managing others
- Comprehensive awareness of commercial issues, ideally including knowledge of construction industry contracts
- Competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel, and AutoCAD is beneficial
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and written communication skills - the ability to communicate complicated concepts is an essential requirement.
- Resourcefulness, initiative and the ability to work unsupervised
- Driving License
- Good communication skills in both Danish and English


Essential duties and responsibilities:


- To deliver WJ’s contractual obligations as directed by the Contracts Manager
- To supervise site activities and closely liaise with our clients site staff, supervisors, subcontractors and suppliers
- To maintain a documentary record, to a high quality standard of WJ’s contractual activities including the collection, collation and presentation of data
- To perform project management and dissemination responsibilities, including drafting of regular progress reports as required & participating in team meetings
- Prepare Method Statements, including working drawings and works procedures
- Appoint and brief the site team, including specialist subcontractors
- Define the project program & ensuring contractual targets are met
- Prepare, issue and negotiating monthly payment applications
- To be responsible for own health and safety and to prepare Risk Assessments for our activities. Brief, check and audit site staff to ensure safe working practices are being followed
- To directly line manage dewatering & monitoring staff
