The suitable incumbent will need the flexibility to adapt and develop as the environment evolves and is expected to contribute to the development of effective regulatory systems and processes.

You will help deliver results in the following areas:

- Inspections and Assessments: Assess the quality of safety cases, analyse H&S Management procedures and processes utilising correct tools. Diagnose H&S Management failings and design/implement new tools.

- Enforcement: Undertake and utilise enforcement activities in line with procedures and processes. Support and prepare for prosecutions in Court when required.

- Investigations: Undertake or support investigations of incidents, accidents, complaints and identify failings while stimulate action to prevent re-occurrence.

- Immediate Response: Identify and respond to serious harm incidents.

- Industry Improvement & Education: Engage with industry bodies and duty-holders to help develop the use of best practice. Continuous improvement of regulatory or standard frameworks. Be seen as an influencer.

- Relationship Management: Engagement and influencing across various stakeholder and help drive operational excellence. Assist in gaining industry and sector participation in terms of regulatory and legislative standards and reviews.

Key knowledge and experience required:

- A relevant tertiary qualification or industry qualification, while also having experience in technical or management position within a relevant industry.

- Understanding of the requirements of health & safety management within a major hazard context.

Skills and attributes

- Understanding of process safety issues in a major hazard facility context.

- Excellent written and oral communication.

- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, especially around technical and legal context.

- Develop an environment of continuous improvement.

- Experience in implementing systemic approaches to safety management.

- Good auditing, risk assessment, hazard management and incident investigation.

- Integrity and credibility.

The Specialist Process Safety Engineer will play a key role in the Major Hazards Facilities environment. You will be undertaking a range of assessment, inspection, investigation, advisory, and enforcement-related activities to ensure designated major hazards facilities comply with the required Act and Regulations. The suitable candidate will ensure high hazard industries identify risks associated with their operations and implement controls necessary to manage those risks.
