Assistant Accountant

PURPOSE OF JOB
Monitoring both operating & capital expenditure for designated budget managers and capital project managers, providing financial information to support business decisions and being the primary point of contact for any financial queries.

JOB OUTLINE/KEY RESULT AREAS
* Providing management accounting service to designated areas of business incorporating; monthly budgetary monitoring, review and reporting for opex and capex, maintenance of accurate, up to date forecasts, annual budget process, validation and monitoring of efficiency commitments.
* Primary contact for all financial queries and advice for designated managers.
ENTRY LEVEL REQUIREMENTS
* Part-qualified accountant or equivalent accounting experience.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

* Highly numerate and competent with spreadsheets.
* Knowledge of NWL systems and processes
PERSONAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
* Competent in analysis and interpretation of information.
* Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in developing relationships with internal customers.
* Prepared to take full ownership and accountability for outputs.
* Capable of challenging managers to validate forecast information and budget assumptions.
DUTIES
1. Responsibility for monitoring annual budgets for designated areas of opex & capex.
2. Provide accurate financial information and support for designated budget managers and capital project managers.
3. Responsibility for routine management accounting tasks for areas of responsibility incorporating :-
* monthly budgetary monitoring, review and reporting for opex and capex, identifying significant trends, variations from forecasts and project overspends;
* regular review meetings with p&l budget holders and capital project managers;
* maintenance of accurate, up to date forecasts, to provide a basis for future budgets;
* annual budget process, including full and robust assumptions;
* validation and monitoring of efficiency commitments;
* appropriate performance measures for opex & capex, in line with company objectives.
4. Analysis of data on an ad hoc basis to inform business decisions.
5. In addition: line managers may request employees to carry out other reasonable tasks in line with operational needs.
