Skills & Qualifications

* Degree qualified Engineer or an Engineer with equivalent relevant experience.
* Working towards membership of an appropriate professional body (ICE, IHT)
* Experience of programming and resourcing the design phase for civil engineering projects.
* Proficient in the use of AutoCAD
* Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes.
* CSCS accreditation appropriate to the post
* Health and Safety; CDM regulations
* Broad skills, knowledge and understanding of other design areas including; Drainage; VRS; Geotechnical, Street Lighting, Traffic Signals, Technology.
* Understanding of exercising the Designer's obligations of CDM.
* Knowledge of H&S requirements related to relevant engineering discipline.
* Knowledge of of environmental requirements of highway schemes
* Knowledge of design codes and specifications (DMRB / MCDHW etc) relevant to highway engineering.
* Knowledge of the HE procedures necessary to deliver a Highways project.
* Ability to deliver to demanding targets
* Good communication skills
* Ability to develop relationships and work as part of a team.
* Driver's licence.
* Provide guidance / mentoring to less experienced staff.
* Experience in the design / assessment of highway maintenance and improvements

Main Duties:

* Promote health, safety and wellbeing.
* Undertake CDM responsibilities under role of DESIGNER on scheme designs, ensuring the principles of risk reduction are implemented on all schemes and at all stages of design.
* Will demonstrate commitment to my clients values by treating colleagues, customers (internal & external) and members of the general public, with fairness, respect & dignity at all times.
* Support the Design Lead.
* Working as part of the Integrated Delivery Team (IDT) including close liaison with other teams within my clients to ensure successful delivery of schemes.
* To work within the given briefs, programmes and budgets and to advise the Design Lead and IDT if this cannot be achieved.
* Deliver schemes to programme and budget and report on progress on a regular basis and forecast progress and costs including preparation of designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables for their schemes.
* Detailed development and design of schemes including drawings, reports and calculations, in accordance with the Highways England standards including the DMRB, IANs and MCHW.
* Seek innovation in the delivery of schemes and techniques used to design and construct them.
* Consultation with Local Authorities, Police and Stakeholders for the production of traffic regulation orders.
* Working in accordance with my clients Integrated Business Management System (IBMS), ensuring that all designs follow the relevant processes and procedures.
* Ensure that any relevant databases are kept up to date.
* Apply LEAN techniques in the design process through Collaborative Meetings and Continuous improvement.
* In addition to the above responsibilities the job holder is required to perform any other reasonable duties that are within the jobholders skills and experience capabilities as deemed necessary by the needs of the business.
