Randstad Education is proud to work with a brilliant alternative provision that caters for students who struggle to access mainstream education. The students very often display challenging behaviours and have Social Emotional and Mental Health needs. This Secondary provision school is seeking a 1:1 Behaviour Support Assistant to support a pupil throughout their day, providing guidance and reassurance when needed. General knowledge of the KS3/4 curriculum would be an advantage. This is a long term role, with the potential to extend longer.

Your role will include:
Establishing constructive relationships with students on a 1:1 basis and with the rest of the class/school students
Following positive behaviour plans for each individual child
Supporting the class teacher, teaching assistants and support staff to maintain a positive working environment
Developing a clear understanding of the specific needs of all pupils
Looking after children's physical, emotional, mental and social welfare
Recognising signs of distress in children, offering reassurance and de-escalating negative situations to the best of your ability
Maintaining a record and providing regular feedback about pupils to the teachers and/or SENCO in order to best track pupil progress
Assisting the school in communicating with parents and carers using the appropriate approach
Supporting all learners in their curriculum studies and throughout the day

Key skills and experience needed:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A commitment to and passion for working with vulnerable children
An ability to build respectful relationships with children
Experience working in a SEND/ youth work/ sports coaching/ community work setting
An ability to manage confrontation and challenging behaviour
An ability to work with learners with various learning difficulties e.g. ADHD or dyslexia
A flexible approach to educating and supporting children
Team teach training (opportunity to train with Randstad if not)
