A through-age Pupil Referral Unit in Bradford with a reputation of supporting and building its staff, are actively looking for a Behaviour Support Worker to work as part of their staff team, to come in and support the students with their Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, as well as their Behavioural Difficulties. T

his role will play a key part in ensuring the students are kept on task, learning to their full capability and have a point of contact for any issues or concerns. The students are working between Key Stage levels 1 and 4, so the successful applicant will be confident supporting students of various ages with their SEMH/SEBD needs.

The children have a range of needs, requiring the applicant to have patience and the ability to think on their feet to provide them with the support they need. The successful candidate will have the resiliency and empathy to engage young children who express extremely challenging behaviour.

Your role will include:
Establishing constructive relationships with students
Following the positive behaviour plans for each individual child
Supporting the class teacher and other support staff to maintain a positive working environment
Developing a clear understanding of the specific needs of each pupil
Looking after children's physical, emotional and social welfare
Recognising signs of distress in children, offering reassurance and de-escalating the situation to best of your ability
Maintaining a record and providing regular feedback about pupils to the teachers and/or SENCO in order to best track pupil progress
Assisting the school in communicating with parents and carers using the appropriate approach
Supporting all learners in their curriculum studies and throughout the day

Key skills and experience needed:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to and a passion for working with vulnerable children
Experience working in a SEND setting
Experience working or volunteering with children
The ability to manage confrontation and challenging behaviour
The ability to work with learners with various learning difficulties
A flexible approach to educating and supporting children
Team teach certification or equivalent (essential)
