A Secondary Pupil Referral Unit with a reputation for supporting and progressing its staff are actively looking for a Behaviour Support Worker to start as soon as possible.

This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring the children are kept on task, learning to their full capacity with a point of contact for any issues or concerns. The children have a range of needs, requiring the applicant to have patience and the ability to think on their feet to provide them with the support they need.

The successful candidate will have the resiliency and empathy to engage young children who express extremely challenging behaviour. They must also have experience working in pupil referral units or similar settings, and the training required. This is a long term role, which will go on until the end of the academic year with the potential to become permanent.

Your role will include:
Establishing constructive relationships with students
Following the positive behaviour plans for each individual child
Supporting the class teacher and other support staff to maintain a positive working environment
Developing a clear understanding of the specific needs of each pupil
Looking after children's physical, emotional and social welfare
Recognising signs of distress in children, offering reassurance and de-escalating negative situations to best of your ability
Providing regular feedback about pupils to teachers and/or SENCO in order to best track pupil progress
Assisting the school in communicating with parents and carers, using the appropriate approach
Supporting all learners in their curriculum studies throughout the day


Key skills and experience needed:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A commitment to and passion for working with vulnerable children
Experience working in SEND setting
Experience working or volunteering with children
The ability to manage confrontation and challenging behaviour
The ability to work with learners with various learning difficulties
Flexibility in your approach to educating and supporting children
Team teach or equivalent certification (essential)
