This varied role is responsible for providing professional advice for the effective management of H&S across our clients estate which includes their offices and engineering facilities both at their Exeter HQ and their Front-line sites across the country.

As H&S Advisor you will have the opportunity to support staff with day-to-day H&S matters, introduce process driven approaches to H&S across the Met Office estate and develop our H&S Management System to meet the requirements of ISO 45001. Occasional overnight travel to other Met Office sites around the UK may be required.

You will translate in-depth H&S operational knowledge and experience into bringing the existing H&S Management System up to meet ISO45001 requirements, working with teams across the Met Office estate (including the Trade Union) to introduce process driven H&S tools (i.e. templates/procedures/online tools) to encourage a positive H&S culture.

You will operate as a trusted H&S Advisor, providing clear and timely professional advice in accordance with H&S legislation to enable all levels within the organisation to meet their statutory H&S compliance obligations.

You will manage the H&S Management System including overseeing the completion of H&S risk assessments and the DSE assessment process, maintaining H&S records, analysing H&S data (accident, incidents and near misses) to identify key risks and trends and producing reports to identify opportunities for improvement and risk mitigation.


You must be qualified to at least Grad IOSH membership or equivalent

You must have experience of working within a certified OHSAS18001/ISO45001 H&S management System

You must be able to demonstrate operational H&S experience including developing H&S policies and procedures, advising and training staff on H&S practices, reviewing contractor's Risk Assessments and Methods Statements (RAMS)

You must have excellent report writing and oral communications skills and be able to promote and encourage the importance of H&S to all levels within the organisation

You must have experience of conduction H&S audits, investigations and inspections, making appropriate recommendations for change in accordance with H&S legislation
