Randstad Inhouse Services are pleased to be working in Partnership with Gillette and Procter and Gamble to recruit for an experienced Laboratory Technician to work within the quality assurance department of their production facility in Reading, Berkshire.

This is a Maternity cover position for a period of upto 1 year where you will gain the benefit of working with a household name and gain exposure to great manufaturing and quality assurance techniques.

Pay Rates

Paid at an hourly rate of between £13.03 and £15.90 depending on shift worked.

Hours of Work

The first 4 weeks of work will be Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm for traning after which you will be placed on two 12 hour shifts rotating between day and night shifts.

Job Decscription

The laboratory technician will support with the testing and analysis of raw material and finished product to ensure compliance and standards are met throughout.

Carry out chemical analyses of mix batches to ensure the efficient running of the mix
room.

Carry out chemical analysis on finished products as required.

Carry out analysis of process water and Ozonised water samples, to ensure
specification limits.

Control laboratory standards and completion of Odour Panel analysis.

Use of laboratory equipment - control and maintenance of equipment.

Provide analytical support to MPD when requested.

Verify results from a range of analyses which are either in or out of specification and
take the appropriate action

Be responsible for Good Laboratory Practices in the area of work. These include:
Good housekeeping, accurate record keeping and filing; the correct and accurate use
of agreed analytical procedures; maintenance and calibration of lab equipment;
handling of out-of- specification results to agreed procedures.

Carry out routine standardisation or reagents

Organise and transport samples for storage in the product/mix library.

Carry out all procedures as determined by the agreed company standards

Carry out all operations to the required company safety regulations; participate in risk
assessments and safety auditing as required; maintain and pay due attention to the
requirements of the COSHH system.

Manage any projects relating to departmental objectives

Assist in other areas of the Quality department including Microbiology Lab as directed
by the Chemistry Team leader

Deal with outside contractors/suppliers to obtain required information and products,
and to answer relevant queries.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates that have a scientific background and preferably experience within a lab environment. It would also be beneficial to have some experience within a quality control position.

You will be flexible in your approach to work as you will be on a shift pattern and expected to work days and nights.

You will be qualified to HND level or equvilent in a Science subject or have a relevent experience.
