LDD support worker

Randstad Student Support is now recruiting for a Support Workers to work 1:1 with a student who has a visual impairment and additional disabilities. Starting in September at a local college in North Tyneside for the academic year 18/19.

You will be supporting the student with all aspects of college life, helping them achieve their potential by providing learning support both in and out of class.

We would be really interested to meet you if you have experience of supporting people with a visual impairment and additional disabilities.

This role would suit someone who is looking for flexibility and term time hours. You will be employed based on student needs and your individual availability. The college is closed for holiday periods such as Christmas, Easter and summer.

Responsibilities



* To work under the direction of the teacher during sessions
* Support students' needs including at times of distress, anxiety, and confusion.
* Promote students independence within the community and college environment.
* The student requires support to use his cane to navigate his way around
* Support to access the curriculum- reader, write, use of inclusive technology (iPad, computer etc.)
* To develop learners' English and Maths skills
* Ability to keep students on task and engaged
* Provide support to students during breaks and lunch time
* Escorting students to and from taxis and during activities in the community
* Adhere to and implement student behaviour plans/ behaviour strategies
* Ability to monitor students' progress and set new targets

* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, carers and students
* Successful applicants must be suitable to work with children and vulnerable adults.
* A DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) will be carried out

Essential



* Experience of supporting young people with a visual impairment
* Braille skills
* Using specialist VI software and equipment
* Experience of supporting children/adults with ASD/Asperger Syndrome
