Lead Engineer- Type Approval

Job Description

The successful candidate will assist in planning and participate in the Type Approval of current and future products. They will complete reports of such activities using both informal and formal reports including USA reporting requirements. The position would suit an individual who has powertrain experience and is willing to learn the legislation requirements. Accuracy, quality of work and data recording is necessary. The successful candidate will be required to monitor and report on new regulations. Guidance as part of a team will be provided to help grow into the role. Type Approval is a key role in ensuring a vehicle complies with market technical legislation and legal obligations. The experience is unique in being cross functional, highly technical, needing interrogation and understanding of complex written requirements and ensuring that released designs and calibrations can achieve the requirements.

Key Responsibilities:



* The role may on occasions require the ability to travel and represent the company
* To possess a knowledge of automotive legislation and /or type approval procedures.
* To plan and co-ordinate test preparation for legislative procedures.
* To provide a role in the analysis of gathered data and preparation of reports. This includes interpretation of results and judgement on whether compliance has been achieved.
* To liaise with Designers and Engineers in order to achieve engineering solutions to legislative compliance issues.
* To develop his/her skill set with experience and by exposure to external input (papers, reports, industry groups/peers, etc.).
* To liaise with legislative authorities regarding technical and regulatory information.
* To support project planning activities.
* To assist with cost control and manpower allocations as required within the TA group.
* Preparation of reports to USA Govt. authorities and EU certification agencies as required.

Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria):

Essential Criteria:



* HNC, Mechanical Engineering degree
* Powertrain or Vehicle legislation experience
* Good PC skills.
* Willingness to help others.
* Accurate work.
* Legislation and compliance testing.
* Outgoing/confident nature and ability to work as part of a team.
* Should possess very high degree of self motivation.
* Will exhibit a high level of attention to detail.
* Planning skills and coordination of project activities is expected.

Desirable Criteria:



* Automotive Engineering degree and /or MSc
* Knowledge of Type Approval activities and Federal online submission and/or reporting processes will be an advantage
* Advanced PC skills.
* Ability to represent the company.
* Ability to extract relevant information from complex regulations.
* Type Approval inspector.

Other information:



* Primarily an office based role but a degree of workshop involvement and offsite testing.
* Shared responsibility for ensuring that projects are delivered to time.
* The company markets its vehicles throughout the world so global travel may be expected
* Meeting demanding technical requirements to time.
* Will work with the development team and the programme management team to establish approval priorities
