Learning Support Assistant - Learning Difficulties and Disabilities

I am now recruiting for a local college in the Bedford area.

I am looking for support workers who have a real passion and enthusiasm to work with and support students. You will be supporting students with Special Educational Needs including Autism, Asperger's and moderate and severe learning difficulties. Helping them to achieve their potential by providing learning support both in and out of class.

This role would suit someone who is looking for flexibility and term time hours. You will be employed based on student needs and your individual availability. The college is closed for holiday periods such as Christmas, Easter and summer.

Due to the nature of the position an Enhanced DBS check will be carried out

* Ensuring the personal safety and well being of students and self at all times
* Provide support to students during breaks and lunch time
* Escorting students to and from taxis and during activities in the community
* Adhere to and implement student behaviour plans/ behaviour strategies
* Ability to monitor students' progress and set new targets
* Adhere to and implement student behaviour plans/ behaviour strategies
* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, carers and students
* Students require a lot of social/emotional/pastoral support particularly within their friendship groups
* To deliver a high standard of support for learners with additional learning support needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
* Successful applicants must be suitable to work with children and vulnerable adults
* A DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) will be carried out


* Experience of children/adults with ASD/Asperger Syndrome
* Experience of SLDD settings
* Experience in personal care
* An understanding of alternative methods of communication that could be used with non-verbal students - PECS and Makaton/BSL
