Planning Engineer

The Role

The Planning Engineer role involves primarily managing the work-load (Maintenance Planner), resulting from maintenance requirements within a Works Manufacturing Area at SPUK. This requires the provision of accurately generated plans to undertake maintenance activities (Daily / Weekly / Shutdown), taking into account prioritisation, timings, conflicting demands and being able to meet Schedule Compliance in a safe and efficient manner.

In addition it is vital that the planner conducts regular reviews of the job catalogue with the Specialist Engineer to ensure that it remains current and meeting the needs of the plant requirements. The post holder will directly report to the Area Planning Manager.


* Support the Maintenance Execution Processes (Effective User Status Management)
* Facilitate Area Planning Meeting.
* Communicate any changes to maintenance schedules / priorities with Area Team.
* Process PM Orders to the Company standard required. Manning / Spares / Correct Start & Finish Date / Services / Estimated Costs.
* Proficient use of available Planning Tools
* Release and change Status to Frequency PM Orders Through the MEP process (Status 30/40/50/60)
* Weekly Schedule to be built using Resource hours Available.
* Review All PM Orders not completed and action accordingly.(i.e. managing the area backlog via Planning meetings)
* Monitor Statutory and Mandatory Orders in SAP and ensure compliance (Schedule 1 / 2 weeks in advance).
* Manage the Job Catalogue to an appropriate size for the Area, making amendments as per the instruction of Engineers, with an attention to maintain an effective minimised optimal job catalogue.
* Ensure the Functional Location Structure is maintained and correct.
* Update Bill of Materials (BOM's) to reflect Spare changes on plant, request new spares creation.
* Review Weekly Maintenance Statistics and report on performance. (see KPI's attached)
* Procure goods / services for the Area Team via PM orders at Status 30 & progress to status 50
* Prepare and manage local maintenance and shutdown plans.
* Monitor and ensure effective utilisation of available Area labour in consultation with the Execution Team.
* Support the Company Asset Management Framework Improvement plans and address any actions set.
* Liaise with Spares Engineers on plant requirements / outstanding reservations.
* Liaise with Service Teams / Contractors to communicate plans.
* Analyse SAP to produce statistics and drive plant improvements.

* Highly developed organisational skills.

* Academic: Desirable to have Higher National Certificate or equivalent diploma / NVQ.
* Desirable to have a craft background supported by NVQ L3 & registered as an Eng Tech.
* Ability to work within or lead a team.
* Extensive relevant knowledge of SHE / Process Safety.
* Working knowledge of Work-Load Management and Scheduling Techniques.
* Experience of facilitating or planning small capital expenditure projects is desirable.
* Experience of procuring spares, item refurbishment and services.
* Relevant plant area experience or similar environment having worked in an operational / engineering role
