Principal Urban Design Officer

Are you looking to work closer to home? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Urban Design Officer based in a Local Authority in South East London.

Post: Principal Urban Design Officer

Rate: Circa £29 - £35 per hour (negotiable)

As a senior member of the Strategic Planning Team, the Principal Urban Design Officer will take the lead role in managing the design and conservation input into the development management process.

The main duties of the role are as follows;



* In consultation with the Strategic Planning Manager, supervise, review and co-ordinate the activities of the team and consultants engaged in design and conservation advice, in order to meet the objectives of the service, providing leadership and guidance to maximise their contribution.
* Promote staff training to maximise career development opportunities, advise the Strategic Planning Manager on staff performance and play an active role in the coaching and mentoring of staff.
* Be a leading officer providing professional advice and making recommendations on complex and non-routine aspects of urban design and conservation work to the public, other employees of the Council, Members, local amenity groups and development control staff.
* Prepare and consult on planning and design briefs and other regeneration projects, including organising public exhibitions and events and arranging other appropriate publicity.

Requirements



* Experience of contributing at a senior level to cross Council initiatives and multi disciplinary projects.
* Experience of project managing urban design, conservation and regeneration projects at a senior level.
* Experience of leading and giving expert evidence at Public Inquiries and other scrutiny mechanisms.
* Experience of effective collaborative working with outside agencies and corporate development teams
