Procurement Category Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Procurement Category Manager based in a Local Authority in East London.

Post: Procurement Category Manager

Rate: Circa £42 - £52 an hour

We are looking for an experienced Procurement Category Manager to provide a professional procurement service for the strategic procurement of a range of goods, services and works, which meet the needs of the Council and progressively achieves cost savings and other targeted benefits.

The main duties of the role are as followings;

* The role will involve closely working with key stakeholders to develop the optimum sourcing options for a number areas including:

* ICT, HR and Professional Services
* FM services including cleaning, catering, postal services and Security Services.

* To be the Council's procurement expert in the allocated Category by ongoing development of skills, knowledge and market engagement.
* To represent the Council in the supply market and through knowledge gained there, directly influence all third party expenditure in the allocated Category by creatively planning and implementing procurement projects that meet customer needs.
* To maximise the use of supply contracts that have been let by actively marketing them within the Council.
* Display pro-active leadership and accountability for all procurement activity and management of third party spend within the allocated Category.


* Knowledge of public sector procurement, with an excellent understanding of how public sector organisations work, and an awareness of public policy and delivery in political environment.
* The ideal candidate must have knowledge of the public contracts regulations and demonstrable experience of delivering savings in the above areas.
* Full member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS) or equivalent strategic procurement/sourcing experience.
* Well-developed knowledge of procurement practices and techniques, including modern and innovative procurement methods.
