This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving, over-subscribed 11-18 school in the heart of Bradford. This is a temporary position, with the potential to become permanent for the right person.

The post holder will be responsible for:

* Leading the Library as a vibrant and interactive centre of learning at the centre of the Academy community.
* Promoting a love of reading and supporting staff in the delivery of the core and pastoral curriculum. Ensuring a customer focus, quality service delivery for the Academy, continually improving the service provided by the team.
* Work to empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skilful researchers and ethical users of information.
* Establish the philosophy, aims and objectives of the library, ensuring that they reflect those of the whole Academy learning vision.
* Establish an engaging and imaginative culture whereby the Library is perceived by all as the centre of learning.
* Identify priorities for development
* Work closely with staff and the SMT on matters associated with events, e.g. parents evenings.
* Proactively liaise with departments on curriculum planning and resource needs.
* Represent the Library at briefings, Head of Department meetings, any specific learning groups and literacy action group. Proactively liaise with departments on curriculum planning and resource needs
* Ensure that the library presents a stimulating environment and reflects contemporary issues.
* Take responsibility for problems that may arise and actively and positively seek solutions and support.

Organisation:

* To work collaboratively with students and staff to convey a love of learning and an understanding of library expectations, embedding a positive learning ethos.
* Support and lead team members in ensuring positive student behaviour for learning in the library, ensuring relationships with all students which are based on mutual respect.
* Maintain a current knowledge of literature for young people, designing and implementing programmes and activities to inspire independent and wider reading.
* Select and manage a collection of resources in all formats that supports and enhances the curriculum and inspires students to read independently for their studies and for pleasure
* Work with the relevant staff to support and enhance literacy development.
* Work with the pastoral team and students in making informed careers decision.
* Assist students of all ages with all aspects of research and enquiry.
* Actively encourage staff and student involvement in the day to day running and strategic direction of the library.
* Proactively promote and organise events to motivate and encourage reading and independent learning.
* Manage all aspects of day-to-day library operations ensuring effective contingency arrangements in case of absence.
* Maintain a constant awareness of new technology tools and resources that enhance learning and work collaboratively with staff and students to ensure their effective use.
* Support the induction of all new staff including ITT staff with access, introduction and training on systems
* Administration, undertake word-processing and complex IT-based tasks.
* Manage manual and electronic record and information systems for students.
* Monitor and manage stock within an agreed budget, cataloguing resources and undertaking audits as required.
* Manage the acquisition process for all learning resources across the Academy; ensure central management of the cataloguing and circulation of these resources

Line Management

* Line-manage staff ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the department and that each individual is effectively deployed.
* Be responsible for professional development/performance appraisals of staff appropriate to their needs.
* Hold regular weekly team meetings to ensure staff are part of library development and to address any issues arising and to bring these to an acceptable conclusion wherever possible
* Responsible for the appraisal and professional development of the library staff
* Responsible for the recruitment and induction of new staff to the team
