A leading, well established SEN School in Bradford is looking to appoint a SEN Teaching Assistant as a member of their bank cover staff, to provide essential and life-changing support to their pupils with learning difficulties. The role will involve working for the school on a part-time basis, to cover their core staff sickness, holidays, and general leave: the successful applicant will need to be flexible and adaptable, able to fit in as and when needed.

The school is a lovely, through-age setting, catering for children with a huge range of needs. The successful applicant will be required to assist the class teacher in managing children with profound and multiple learning difficulties, complex medical needs, and challenging behaviour. Tasks will include supporting the students individually and in groups with core subjects, engaging them with their work and keeping them on task with their learning.

The role may occasionally have aspects of personal care, supporting students with trips to the bathroom and supporting with life skills. Days of work can be accepted or rejected around your schedule and so the role is extremely flexible for applicants with busy schedules or balancing study or other part-time work.

The role will include:
Providing assistance to the class teacher
Managing small groups of children independently
Working 1:1 with students to help develop their work
Supporting the general wellbeing of the students in the school
Monitoring and evaluating pupils learning under the guidance of the teacher
Assisting the teachers in the use of relevant management strategies to ensure a purposeful environment for teaching and learning to take place

SEN TA experience (or work with vulnerable children in another setting e.g. youth work)
Experience as a teaching assistant (ideally)
A desire to encourage children to succeed
A caring, patient and calm personality
The ability to work with students with a variety of learning difficulties
An understanding of children with special needs
Flexibility in your approach to education
