A leading, well established SEN School in Wakefield is looking to appoint a SEN Teaching Assistant in one of their SLD classrooms. They are in need of a TA with a can-do attitude, who can get on with their work efficiently and happily. This is a Year 3 classroom, consisting of 7 children with a range of SLD and medical needs, alongside the class teacher and another teaching assistant. The successful applicant will have SLD/SEN experience, as well as the motivation to work hard within the team to keep the children happy, safe and comfortable. Some of these children have severe complex needs and medical requirements. Applicants to this position need to have a degree of resiliency and positive focus to ensure delivery of the high-quality care these children deserve. The role will involve assisting the class teacher with children with complex needs, supporting the students individually and in groups with core subjects, engaging with their work and keeping them on task with their learning. The role may occasionally have aspects of personal care, supporting students with trips to the bathroom and general life skills.

The role will include:
Providing assistance to the class teacher
Assisting the teacher in managing the class as a whole, as well as in small groups independently
Working 1:1 with students to help develop their work
Supporting the general well-being of the students in the school
Monitoring and evaluating pupils learning under the guidance of the teacher
Assisting the teachers in the use of relevant management strategies to ensure a purposeful environment for teaching and learning
Personal care for the students

Severe Learning Difficulties and/or Special Educational Needs and Disabilities experience
Team teach certification ideal but not essential
A desire to encourage children to succeed
A caring, patient and calm personality
Ability to work with students with a variety of learning difficulties
An understanding of children with special needs
Flexibility in your approach to education
Resiliency and optimism
