SEN Teaching Assistant

Students want to learn! Can you offer skills and knowledge to help these young individuals progress whilst working as a Teaching Assistant? Can you adapt to the needs of the learners and apply your experiences to help with all their educational needs? Can you ensure that no opportunities are missed and every opportunity is taken to ensure learning takes place?

This role is for a community generic special school maintained by West Sussex County Council. The school provides special education for students with learning difficulties from Year 7 to Year 14.

The school is located nicely on the south coast and has excellent transport links. This school is a generic special school and is dedicated to providing a curriculum that meets the needs of all its learners. Students have various needs some may have physical disabilities; some may be on the Autistic spectrum, every learner is treated as an individual. Each day can be very different and there will always be interesting challenges for you to be involved in. In this role as a Teaching Assistant you will be:

> Enabling learners to access the curriculum.
> Support the pastoral needs of the learners.
> Be an active part in setting the learning environment.
> Supporting learners on a 1:1 base and part of a small group.
> Supporting learners in a range of activities.
> Using your interests to engage learners in learning.

The ideal candidate may posses the following skills and capabilities:

> Be able to work with learners that have various learning difficulties.
> Have an understanding of the students with emotional needs.
> Willingness to learn and build relationships with learners.
> Be confident to support the lead in groups, in different educational subjects.
> The ability to work as an individual and as a part of the team.
> Be flexible in their approach to education.
