job description

We are currently recruiting for a number of support workers to work within a residential service for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and complex needs. The service has recently been granted "outstanding" by Ofsted which is a result of the passion and dedication the staff team bring to their roles every single day. The service is made up of several residential units linked with a nearby specialist school which is situated next to the beautiful Astley park where the peaceful surroundings help support a therapeutic environment where the children can focus on their education. Locations of the residential homes include Haighton, Chorley, Leyland and Preston.

As a support worker you will be primarily based within the homes. Your role will be to enrich the lives of the young people you support and strive to bring the best out in every individual. You will support each young person with every aspect of their lives (including personal care). You will work to develop close working therapeutic relationships with each young person and work around tailored person centred plans that put the individual at the centre of their support. This can include:

* Supporting children at home with daily living skills... ready, steady, cook! Cooking, baking, arts and crafts are all part of the fun.

* Accompanying the young person out into the community which can involve everything from horse riding, cinema trips, meals out and trips to the theme park.

* Assisting the young person at school and supporting them to reach their full potential.

The service offers very competitive pay rates as well as a rolling rota system indicating your shift patterns for the following 12 weeks. A typical early shift would be 07:30 - 16:00 and a late shift 15:30 - 22:00. You will be required to work a combination depending on the needs of the service. There is also the opportunity to work sleep-ins which are paid at the competitive rate of £35 per shift. Part time opportunities are also available.

If you have a minimum of 6 months experience in any supporting/caring role then we would love to hear from you. We recognise that passion, dedication and attitude is just as important as experience. Perhaps you have spent the last few years looking after a family member, you may well have personal experience with ASD or it could well be that you are an experienced support worker looking for a change from working with adults to working with children. Whatever your aspirations are we are here to support you every step of the way to secure your ideal position.
