Contract position: Engineering client involved in high voltage, electric Substation & Transmission Line EPC projects is looking for a few Civil Engineers/Technical Project Managers to join their team in either Akron, Ohio, Greensburg, PA or Reading, PA. This is a perfect opportunity for a Civil Engineer who has done 7-12 years of design work and would like to break into project management. Client is willing to pay a per diem for candidates that aren't local to the area.

Responsibilities for the Civil Engineer

  • Provide overall management of projects from concept thru the development phase including siting, environmental, permitting, planning, estimating, engineering, right-of-way acquisition, project controls & constructability reviews
  • Serve as project point of contact with Owner regarding efforts such as client coordination, strategic planning, scope management, and budgeting
  • Coordinate project kick-offs and development of a project team to evaluate, refine and clarify project scope
  • Lead projects from conceptual stage through developmental stage to hand-off of project to execution team; hand-off of project takes place at approximately 30% of the overall project lifecycle
  • Lead multiple concurrent projects including overhead transmission and substation projects ranging from 34.5kV to 500kV
  • Work with technical teams to understand inter dependencies of projects and establish an overall construction sequence for inter-related projects
  • Maintain detailed project financials with support from cost analyst team
  • Maintain detailed project schedule with support from project scheduling team
  • Implement a project management lifecycle process to document and execute projects in a consistent, standardized fashion
  • Leverage technical education and background to effectively manage projects through early development

Requirements for the Civil Engineer

  • 7-12 years of technical & engineering experience as a Civil Substation Engineer or Civil Transmission Line Engineer supporting high voltage substation or transmission line projects
  • You must have experience as a Civil Engineer or a Project Manager supporting high voltage substation or transmission line EPC projects
  • You must have detailed knowledge in either substations or transmission lines
  • You need some experience with any of the following project related areas: management of siting, permitting, engineering, estimating, real estate, project outreach, scheduling, procurement, project controls, contract administration, safety, and field operations,
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering is needed, a PE license is a PLUS
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus but not mandatory
  • Client will offer a per diem for candidates that are not local
