Permanent position: Engineering & Construction client involved in heavy industrial plant EPC projects is looking for a Mid Level and a Lead Controls Engineer to join their team in Houston. You need a BS degree in Engineering and 15-20 years of overall experience designing & developing the process control systems on refinery, gas processing, petrochem, & similar plant projects. Responsibilities for the Controls Engineer

  • Responsible for the design and development of the process control systems for gas processing, refineries, petrochem and similar plants
  • Specify control system hardware and software, including the material to support installation
  • Develop/review & approve Process Controls & Automation architecture, Functional Design specifications (FDS), Control System (DCS/SIS/BMS PLC) configuration standards, in full compliance with recognized industry and safety standards, and various client specifications
  • Development of Process Controls & Automation for assigned project PFD's & P&ID's
  • Review and check technical vendor submittals for Process Controls & Automation requirements, like DCS/SIS/BMS PLC hardware design, Software programming, GADs, Power schematic etc...
  • Prepare control system analyses (feedback control, loop response, stability analysis, safety system design etc.) as required
  • Control system implementation, including - configuration, programming, communications, system architecture, human machine interface, alarm management, trending, historical data, human factors engineering, control room & control panel arrangements

Requirements for the Controls Engineer

  • 5-10 (Mid level) or 15-20 years (Lead level) of relevant experience in Process Controls & Automation of process plant engineering and design working for an EPC firm
  • You need specific experience supporting hydrogen, syngas or ethylene plant EPC projects OR you need specific experience with Siemens & Allen Bradley controls systems
  • BS degree in Engineering is needed and a PE is a PLUS
  • You need knowledge of Process Controls optimization, Process troubleshooting, & Safety Life Cycle Management, as per IEC
  • Working knowledge of ISA Standards and International Codes
  • Requires you to travel 25% of the time
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD tools (PDS, Smart 3D, SPR) & CAE tools would be a PLUS
