The Machine Shop Operator sets up and operates conventional, special purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts

Responsibilities:
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
Fabricate or repair machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, saws, & hand tools.
Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work-piece as guides for subsequent machining as necessary.
Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
Verifies conformance of finished work-piece to specifications, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary.
Performs routine maintenance tasks on machines as required

Working hours: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as portability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Individual should be a self-motivated, assertive thinker that can work effectively in a freely structured environment
Fluent in English

Qualifications:
Must have 5+ years as a machinist with related experience in all phases of machine shop equipment
Must have ability to read Blueprints
