Highly rated and former "DFW's Top 100 Places to work" has a great opportunity for the right individual! This fun and friendly mid-size public accounting firm is in search of a Senior Accountant to join their outgoing team in Dallas!!

This mid-size public accounting firm provides accounting services in the automotive, construction, healthcare, real estate, not-for-profit, manufacturing & high tech, and state and local tax.

The Senior Accountant will work in the Accounting & Consulting Services department. The Senior Accountant will be performing true accounting/controller functions as well as tax work.

The ideal Senior Accountant should have:

  • 3-5 years public accounting experience
  • CPA or in process of attaining CPA but not required
  • Bachelors or Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience in the non-profit arena. i.e. 990 returns.

responsibilities:

The Senior Accountant will:

  1. Demonstrate competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional standards and firm policies.
  2. Coordinate phases of engagements including planning, budgeting for time and expenses and monitoring actual performance against budget.
  3. Prepare federal and state income tax returns (i.e. 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1040 & 1041) Preparation and knowledge of not-for-profit financial reporting and preparation of 990 returns a plus.
  4. Prepare and/or review quarterly payroll tax returns and property tax reports.

    Prepare compiled and reviewed financial statements with footnote disclosures.

  5. Prepare and index work papers; perform various procedures established under accepted accounting principles required under SSARS standards to perform a compilation or review.
  6. Process more complicated financial reporting engagements (multi-location, multi-firm).
  7. Assist with and/or complete year-end tax planning.
  8. Review difficult bank reconciliations and assigned accounting engagements.
  9. Direct and instruct staff in work paper preparation and work to be performed.
  10. Research IRS notices and prepare routine correspondence to client for approval and signature of a partner or authorized agent; writes comments for management letters.
  11. Meet time budgets and client deadlines; prepare monthly client invoices.
  12. Provide training to client's personnel for various accounting software packages.
  13. Proactively research and address tax issues in order to resolve them.
  14. Perform controller-by-the-hour work at client's office (various accounting related tasks requested by the client).
  15. Participate in firm's practice development efforts and attend business development/marketing activities.
  16. Update the status of the projects to partners weekly.
  17. Prepare other reports, projects, and duties as may be assigned.

Required Experience and Skills:

  1. Ability to establish workload priorities and perform assigned tasks on engagements or projects in a timely manner.
  2. Ability to analyze complex accounting issues.
  3. Ability to prepare business and individual income tax returns in an efficient and effective manner with minimal supervision.
  4. Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate orally and in writing with clients, taxing authorities, partners and peers.
  5. Ability to use discretion in dealing with client matters by keeping client and firm information confidential.
  6. Ability to maintain a professional presence while at the client's office.
  7. Current knowledge of GAAP and OCBOA statements including disclosures.
  8. Experience with Microsoft Office suite and general office equipment.
  9. Current knowledge of accounting software a plus (Creative Solutions, QuickBooks, as well as CCH ProSystem Tax and Pro System FX Engagement software).
