job summary:

This is a great opportunity for a Staff Accountant with a wonderful and growing company!

The Staff Accountant will prepare/review key financial information which is essential to producing reports which are utilized to make decisions for the business. The Staff Accountant also participates in the capture of data which provides key performance indicators. This position provides researching and analyzing accounts, and preparing financial statements. This position collaborates with the Accounting Supervisor and Senior Accountant in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance / Accounting Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produces essential Financial analysis and reports.
  • Prepare month end journal entries - recurring and general.
  • Record monthly sales, gift card activation and employee meals.
  • Prepare payroll entry on a weekly and biweekly basis.
  • Assist in preparing the schedules for Fixed Assets and Feasibility and Intangibles.
  • Record monthly depreciation and amortization expense.
  • Assist in preparing ending inventory, calculating COGS and product transfers.
  • Prepare schedules for prepaid expenses & prepaid insurance.
  • Record Deferred and Favorable/Unfavorable Rent.
  • Preparation of Advertising expense on a monthly basis.
  • Review/Post weekly Accounts Payable Department batches
  • Prepare State & Local Sales & Use tax on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Performs monthly bank reconciliation for several cash accounts.
  • Reconcile Balance Sheet Accounts on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Reviews the general ledger for input accuracy and makes corrections as needed
  • Serve as liaison between the staff accountants and the legal department to ensure year end reconciliations are processed and paid on time

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in accounting. CPA certification is preferred. 2+ years of accounting experience in either a food service or retail environment is preferred; however, a recent college graduate with a positive attitude to learn may be considered for the position. Language Ability: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to write complex correspondences. This requires excellent business math and accounting skills, which includes the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information. Reasoning Ability: This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects; proficient in multi-tasking. Computer Skills: Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook and other appropriate software. Operates a variety of office machines, including copier and fax machine. Knowledge of Great Plains is preferable.
