The APS6 Project Officers present an exciting opportunity to work for the Commonwealth on projects that work to positively impact stakeholders through designing and delivery of improvements.
Based in Richmond, accessible via multiple public transport options, on offer is a 12 month contract based opportunity with a strong chance for renewal beyond. A flexible, hybrid working environment ensures a great work-life balance position with some time required in office however individual circumstances are assessed on a case by case basis. This is a full time position (Monday-Friday).
These Project Officers work with a Division that contributes to process, platform, and practice solutions to address organisations priorities. Through traditional project management methodologies and embedding co-design and a stakeholder-view of change into the ways of working, they aim to achieve outcomes with the greatest value to different audiences.

Duties and responsibilities in these positions include but are not limited to…
... - Developing and managing project plans and schedules in accordance with the department's project management framework.
- Providing specialist advice and technical expertise to staff and stakeholders.
- Performing independent research work and analysis including the preparation of draft reports on relevant project activities.
- Coordinating regular project reporting including status updates and exception reports.
- Preparing draft written material including business cases, plans, executive briefs and corporate documentation.
- Monitoring project budgets, review and report on expenditure and assist with procurement and contract management.
- Identifying and assisting with the management of project risks, issues and benefits. • Contributing to project quality management to ensure that project deliverables are fit for purpose and meet client needs.
The ideal candidate for this role will be professional, confident and must have demonstrated experience in the following areas…
- Researching and identifying insights contributing to Agency understanding of information.
- Co-creating and documenting current state service through design and research, to identify current participant and staff experience and business processes.
- Co-creating and co-facilitating process design improvements.
- Advocating for the voice and experience of participants and stakeholders through work processes.
- Co-facilitating design-thinking sessions with service users to design and test future service processes, channels and experiences.
- Applying in-depth knowledge of the role and functions of the agency and the related impacts across work areas.
- Overseeing end-to-end service experiences in line with the Digital Service Standard, ensuring changes are based on participant and staff need and are consistent for all users across different touch points.
- Contributing to the evaluation of proposed solutions and design at both a conceptual and tactical level.
- Assisting management with the use of system tools and other duties as required.
Although not essential, the following qualifications/experience will be held in high regard when shortlisting application;
- Project management/support experience working within the human sector (health, disability, aged care, education, community facing, justice)
- Experience working within a Service design background: this could be in fields of digital, business process or design of customer service/ experience.
- Experience with Jira and confluence
- Government experience is not necessary but government awareness in a project management/coordination setting is desirable.
What will you need to be successful in this role
As this role will be working within a Federal Department, it is essential that you:
- Are an Australian Citizen
- currently hold or have the ability to pass a national police check
- Availability to work full-time hours Monday - Friday on a long term basis
