Position Overview: The Chief Financial Officer is a key member of the senior management team, playing a critical role in consolidating subsidiaries, improving operational effectiveness and efficiency, and driving the company’s continued growth through organic initiatives and additional acquisitions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in growth-stage and renewables companies, with a proven track record in revenue and profitability growth, capital efficiency, acquisitions, financing, ERP implementation, and sustainable organizational execution. This role requires a close and trusted partnership with the CEO and senior leadership team, with active involvement in corporate strategy and driving the company’s future growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy, Planning, and Leadership:
- Provide strong leadership as a member of the executive team, driving strategic vision and tactical execution to achieve revenue growth, profitability, and capital goals.
- Define the finance strategy and lead the corporate and project finance team.
- Ensure a governance structure is in place for sustainable and efficient operational execution that enhances shareholder value and organizational well-being.
- Devise deal strategies and lead negotiations with financing parties for the company’s project portfolio, including construction and term debt, and monetization of assets and incentives.
- Evaluate and improve the finance team’s execution, profitability, and efficiency.
- Determine financing needs and lead negotiations for debt and equity financing.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with all term financing deals, including corporate, project, equipment/asset financing, and lease arrangements.
- Manage transaction execution and financial closing processes for multiple projects at various development stages.
- Evaluate and approve M&A transactions and assist in negotiations.
- Refine the company’s project and enterprise-level financial models.
- Enhance the handoff process between project finance, operations, and asset management for improved transaction efficiency.
- Support project development and acquisition efforts by collaborating with internal business units (origination, development, operations, legal).
- Expand relationships with new and existing renewable energy project investors.
- Ensure appropriate levels of insurance coverage across the company and subsidiaries and manage relevant insurance claims.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Cash Management:
- Manage internal and external financial planning, analysis, and reporting requirements, including directing the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
- Track and analyze company performance against budget, updating projections throughout the year.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of regular financial reports, including monthly profit and loss, forecast vs. budget, and weekly cash flow management.
- Present monthly financial reports to the Executive Management team and Board of Directors, and communicate performance updates to stakeholders, including lenders and shareholders.
- Interface with the owner team to provide updates and respond to information requests.
Accounting, Compliance, and Audit:
- Oversee the Tax and Accounting function, including the preparation of the company’s annual audit.
- Ensure the application of appropriate internal controls and external compliance.
- Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting data.
- Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all local, state, and federal tax returns.
- Sign off on all month-end closing activities, including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts, and overhead cost allocation.
- Develop and implement effective risk management policies and systems in coordination with the General Counsel and other team members.
Procurement:
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with corporate policies and management guidelines.
- Provide input and guidance to the procurement process, collaborating with other departments to develop requests for proposals, competitive bid packages, and contract awards, and negotiating favorable payment and security terms.
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience in financial leadership roles, including at least five years as a CFO.
- Proven track record in raising project and corporate financing.
- Strong financial structuring and deal-making experience, including evaluating complex revenue structures.
- Relevant experience in energy storage or renewable energy with a top-tier renewable energy developer, bank, or investor.
- Expertise in tax equity and project finance structures and tracking models.
- Experience leading corporate and project budgeting and forecasting.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence, and ability to motivate staff.
- Excellent analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Master’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field is preferred.
