Job Overview:
The General Manager in Business Development is responsible for leading the company's efforts in securing new business opportunities and private contracts within the EPC sector. This role involves strategic planning, market analysis, relationship building with key clients, and overseeing the tender and negotiation processes. The GM will work closely with project management, engineering, and finance teams to ensure project feasibility and alignment with company goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategy Development:
- Develop and implement comprehensive business development strategies to enhance market presence and secure private sector contracts.
- Identify emerging markets and business opportunities that align with the company’s capabilities and growth objectives.
2. Client Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the private sector, including potential and existing clients.
- Represent the company in industry events, conferences, and professional associations to enhance business networking.
3. Contract Acquisition:
- Lead the process of tendering, negotiating, and closing business deals with private entities.
- Collaborate with legal and contractual advisors to ensure that all agreements comply with legal, regulatory, and company standards.
4. Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with the engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure project proposals are realistic and competitive.
- Coordinate with finance to assess project risks and returns, ensuring financial sustainability and profitability.
5. Market Analysis:
- Conduct market research to understand industry trends, competitive landscape, and client needs.
- Use insights to refine business strategies and provide feedback to the senior management team.
6. Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of business development professionals.
- Foster a culture of performance, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a senior business development role within the EPC industry, specifically dealing with private contracts.
- Strong understanding of the engineering, procurement, and construction processes and dynamics.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related field; MBA preferred.
