Overview: The APAC Tax Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the tax functions for the Asia-Pacific region. This position involves ensuring compliance with local tax regulations, providing strategic tax planning, and managing tax risks for the region. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations in multiple jurisdictions within the APAC region, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively across diverse teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance and Reporting:
- Oversee and manage tax compliance for the Asia-Pacific region, including tax returns, tax audits, and other related filings.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation and submission of tax returns in line with local regulations and global policies.
- Monitor and assess changes in tax laws and regulations across the region and ensure the company remains compliant.
- Liaise with external tax advisors and regulatory authorities as required.
Tax Planning and Strategy:
- Develop and implement effective tax strategies that align with the company's business objectives and financial goals.
- Provide advice and support on tax-related matters for cross-border transactions and international operations.
- Identify opportunities for tax optimization and efficiency, such as tax incentives and credits.
Tax Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and manage tax risks for the region to minimize exposure and ensure compliance.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls and processes to support tax compliance and risk management.
- Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure tax practices align with the company's policies and objectives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with finance, legal, and other departments to provide tax guidance and support for business initiatives.
- Collaborate with other regional tax managers to share best practices and ensure consistent tax policies across the organization.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and present tax reports and analyses to senior management, providing insights and recommendations.
- Maintain proper documentation and records for all tax-related activities and transactions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. A Master's degree is an advantage.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent are preferred.
- At least 5-8 years of experience in tax management, preferably within a multinational corporation or a global professional services firm.
- Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations in multiple APAC jurisdictions, including Malaysia.
- Proven experience in tax planning, compliance, and risk management.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
