The Release Train Lead is responsible for leading and facilitating the Agile Release Train (ART) processes and program execution, including coordination of activities, communication, and delivery of value. The RTE works with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and leadership to plan, prioritize, and execute program goals and objectives. The RTE will facilitate ART events, remove impediments, escalate risks and issues, and ensure effective collaboration across teams and functions.
Responsabilities:
- Facilitate ART processes and ceremonies, including Release Planning, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
- Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART, identifying and removing impediments to progress.
- Ensure effective coordination and communication across ART stakeholders, including teams, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Product Management.
- Collaborate with Product Management and other stakeholders to prioritize and plan Program Increment (PI) objectives and features.
- Monitor program execution and progress, track performance metrics, and identify risks and issues to escalate as necessary.
- Work with the Scrum Masters to identify and manage dependencies between teams, ensuring alignment and synchronization.
- Coach and mentor team members, Scrum Masters, and Product Owners on Agile and SAFe principles, practices, and behaviors.
- Continuously improve ART processes and practices, adapting to changing business needs and market conditions.
- Partner with the managers, architects, product owners, technology partners, subject matter experts, and scrum teams to monitor, track and provide oversight on the project.
- Liaises with the partners and project teams in determining client requirements and translating requirements into project charter with clear scope, and milestones with a view to make delivery effective.
- Assist in decision making by facilitating feature estimations by teams and publish for planning, visibility, and transparency.
- Help manage risks and dependencies and appropriately escalate and track impediments, scope, prioritization, and delivery status.
- Responsible for ensuring new work is appropriately sized, prioritized, and added to the backlog for prioritization and estimating. Ensures coordination of routines, processes, metrics, and reporting, that support planning and delivery efforts.
- Uses domain specific and technology application(s) knowledge to define and lead detailed analysis in response to business & technology requests to develop efficient and accurate functional requirements.
- Ensure that all scheduling, and coordination processes (deliverables, resources, stakeholders, risks) run smoothly, as well as managing conflicts between projects, making trade-offs between competing requests and evaluating resources.
- Oversees and reports on industry trends, best practices, and Air Canada’s position against competitors; conducts ongoing environment scan to provide advice and help Air Canada stay ahead.
- Helps Air Canada identify and on-board the appropriate blend of resources to meet the program needs and requirements.
- May interact with vendors, external industry participants, and regulatory agencies.
Qualifications
- A relevant University degree/technical certification, and/or relevant experience commensurate to the role
- 5+ years of experience in Agile software development, with at least 2 years of experience as an RTE or in a similar role.
- Certifications in SAFe (RTE) required, other Agile (CSM), and CSP certification an asset.
- Experience working in the software development sector on large scale deployment projects.
- Strong understanding of Agile principles, values, and practices, with experience working in a SAFe environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and leadership.
- Proven ability to facilitate meetings and ceremonies, manage conflict, and negotiate outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve goals and objectives.
- Experience with Agile and DevOps tools and processes, including JIRA, Confluence, and continuous integration and delivery pipelines.
- Demonstrates openness and willingness to adapt to different and new ways of doing things.
- Takes responsibility for the results and actively participates in the future direction of the organization
- Ability to work cooperatively with others on a team, and to establish and maintain effective business relationships
