About Court Services Victoria (CSV):
CSV is a body corporate established by statute to provide administrative services to support Victoria’s courts (Courts Group), including the Supreme Court, County Court, Magistrates’ Court, Children’s Court, and Coroners Court, as well as the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, and the Judicial Commission of Victoria.
CSV’s Legal & Governance group is an in-house legal team within the Office of General Counsel providing legal advice and services across the Courts Group on commercial, administrative law and litigation matters.
About the Role:
Reporting directly to the Manager, Legal and Governance, the Senior Lawyer plays an integral part in delivering excellent legal advice and services across the team’s functions. The role requires an adaptable and collaborative lawyer to advise on commercial projects and complex statutory interpretation issues and to manage complaint matters.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide authoritative, timely, and practical legal advice to CSV Corporate and the Courts Group.
- Manage complaints, disputes, claims, and litigation matters.
- Perform legal research and analysis and draft complex legal opinions.
- Ensure compliance with legislative obligations, including freedom of information, privacy, and integrity.
- Review and advise on policies and procedures.
- Draft, negotiate, and review legal instruments such as commercial contracts and MOUs.
- Stay informed about legal developments and update internal resources and templates
Key Selection Criteria:
- Bachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification.
- Victorian practising certificate or eligibility to acquire one.
- Proven experience providing high-quality legal advice, preferably in a government context.
- Substantial experience in one of the following areas (and preferably more than one): commercial law, statutory interpretation or administrative/public law.
- Highly developed research, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and make sound judgements under pressure.
- Commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, collaboration, and teamwork.
