Global talent mobility slowed significantly in 2020 due to the pandemic, but ensuring access to migrant labor should be a priority for policymakers this year. With unfavorable demographics contributing to talent shortages in many countries, free movement of workers is necessary for economic growth.

Randstad is committed to supporting the assimilation of migrant workers into their new home countries through training and job acquisition. Success stories like Jashwill's are worth celebrating because they are a win-win for everyone – his recently adopted home, his employer and, of course, himself.

With economic recovery expected this year, a tightening of the global job market is likely. As I’ve written in the past, reskilling will be critical to meeting employers’ needs, but so is talent mobility as retirements accelerate in many industrialized nations. Hopefully with growth coming back, greater movement of talent will follow.
