Randstad is currently seeking an experienced Accounts Receivable Team Leader to join a Queensland Government Department on the Gold Coast. This is an initial 3-month temporary assignment offering full-time hours and an immediate start, with potential for ongoing extension. This role offers an attractive casual hourly rate of $72.50 to $78.66 per hour plus superannuation, with hybrid working arrangements including 1 day work from home per week.
The successful candidate will lead and supervise an operational Accounts Receivable team delivering high-volume financial services within a public sector framework. You will oversee revenue initiatives, manage complex month-end reconciliations, and ensure robust internal controls and legislative compliance across government accounting standards. This opportunity is ideally suited to a proactive finance professional with demonstrated leadership, strong financial control experience, and the ability to operate effectively within large enterprise ERP environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor an operational Accounts Receivable team, overseeing daily workflow allocation, capability building, and performance management.
- Complete and review complex balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, month-end ledger adjustments, and accrual reporting.
- Ensure strict adherence to government accounting standards, public sector financial policies, and internal control frameworks, liaising directly with internal and external auditors.
- Manage special purpose ledgers, cash allocations, and receipting processes to ensure full audit readiness.
- Review, prepare, and approve standard and complex journal adjustments across core financial systems.
- Act as an escalation point to resolve complex billing inquiries, outstanding revenue issues, and customer account discrepancies.
- Provide expert operational advice to departmental stakeholders regarding revenue collection policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data collection processes, workflow efficiencies, and billing cycle integrity.
- Assist with financial systems data management, testing, and rate schedule maintenance.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience leading, supervising, or mentoring an Accounts Receivable, ideally within government or large complex organisations.
- Strong technical background across accrual accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, ledger maintenance, journal approvals, and year-end/audit compliance.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience utilising large-scale financial management systems (experience with SAP S/4HANA or similar enterprise ERPs is highly regarded).
- Prior background navigating structured billing schedules, fee frameworks, or multi-stream revenue environments is advantageous.
- Comprehensive understanding of public sector governance, internal control mechanisms, and financial compliance.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and written communication skills with the confidence to drive change and operational excellence.
- Strong analytical capability, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage priorities autonomously.
- Eligibility to work in Australia; applicants must be willing to undergo standard public sector pre-employment screening, including a Criminal History Check.
