Hourly Rate: $82.98 per hour + superannuation
About the Role
Are you an experienced RTI and Privacy professional seeking a high-impact contract role? We are looking for a Senior Right to Information & Privacy Advisor to support the management and administration of statutory compliance with the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld).
In this role, you will manage day-to-day access requests, exercise delegated statutory authority, conduct Privacy Impact Assessments, and deliver practical privacy training across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
... - Operational Advisory: Provide authoritative advice and support to officers and the public on the RTI Act, IP Act, and departmental access procedures.
- Case Management: Manage complex access requests, including non-legislative disclosures, subpoenas, non-party disclosures, and requests under the Public Sector Regulation 2023 (Qld).
- Statutory Decision-Making: Exercise delegated decision-making powers under the RTI and IP Acts, drafting clear, comprehensive, and legally sound Statements of Reasons.
- Privacy Assessments: Support and conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), identifying potential privacy risks and recommending actionable mitigation strategies.
- Training & Awareness: Promote compliance across the organisation by developing and delivering clear, practical guidance materials and training tools.
- Data Breach Response: Assist with privacy breach investigations under the Mandatory Notification Data Breach scheme and help manage responses to privacy complaints.
- Policy & Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the review and ongoing improvement of internal RTI and privacy policies and operational guidelines.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Legislative Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience applying the RTI Act 2009 (Qld) and IP Act 2009 (Qld) in a public sector environment.
- Decision-Making Ability: Proven skill in exercising delegated authority and drafting clear, defensible Statements of Reasons.
- Risk & PIA Experience: Hands-on experience conducting risk assessments, specifically Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
- Communication & Training: Ability to translate complex legislative concepts into plain language and deliver engaging training to diverse audiences.
- Workload Management: Strong organisational skills to manage competing priorities and consistently hit statutory deadlines.
