A local government organisation on the Mornington Pensinsula is seeking a collaborative, high-calibre leader to serve as the independent Chair of our Audit and Risk Committee (ARC). As a vital advisory committee to Council, the ARC provides an essential assurance function, reviewing the ultimate effectiveness of the organisation’s risk management.
As Chair, you will head a five-member committee comprising two Councillors and three independent members. Your core duties include:
Strategic Leadership: Chairing meetings to ensure the Committee completely fulfils its responsibilities.
Stakeholder Engagement: Working with council officers in the lead-up to sessions and liaising across committee members and key stakeholders to maintain a highly effective ARC.
Oversight: Leading five scheduled meetings per year—four covering a broad agenda and one focused strictly on the annual financial and performance statements.
We are searching for an individual who brings:
Complex Leadership: Significant experience in a sophisticated leadership role, with a knack for constructively engaging diverse stakeholders.
Core Competencies: A solid literacy in financial risk alongside corporate governance, integrity, or compliance. A naturally curious individual who a strong business acumen.
Dedication: The commitment to thoroughly digest confidential meeting papers beforehand and attend scheduled sessions in person.
Schedule: Meetings take place on Thursday afternoons (1:00 pm to 4:00 pm) during the final week of February, May, August, and November, with the financial review held in the first week of September.
Attendance: In-person attendance is expected (with the exception of the August meeting, which is online), and travel costs are not reimbursed.
Commencement: Your first official committee meeting will take place on 26 November 2026 with onboard during October 2026. Interviews for the position will be ran across August and September
