We are currently seeking a highly skilled Fire Services Engineer to join a dedicated team in the Brisbane CBD. In this role, you will deliver expert technical advisory, conduct critical evaluations, and lead the optimization of both wet and dry fire protection systems.
You will play a key role in reviewing complex performance solutions, constructively challenging system designs, and providing high-level guidance to ensure safety, performance, and statutory compliance across major government asset portfolios.
Initially on a 6 month contract, this position will likely extend or have the opportunity to go internal.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Evaluation & Compliance: Assess, analyze, and design wet and dry fire protection systems to ensure strict alignment with Australian Standards, the National Construction Code, and QLD legislation.
- Design Review & Peer Analysis: Conduct detailed technical reviews of fire system designs and performance solutions—identifying potential risks, challenging assumptions constructively, and recommending practical, compliant improvements.
- Expert Advisory: Provide authoritative fire safety and engineering advice to clients, project teams, and key stakeholders across both design and construction phases.
- Reporting & Justification: Prepare comprehensive technical reports, safety justifications, and documentation outlining findings and proposed design modifications.
- Collaborative Integration: Work closely with multidisciplinary delivery teams to ensure robust fire safety objectives are seamlessly embedded into building designs and construction processes.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of fire safety codes, national standards (AS 1670, AS 2118, etc.), and Queensland regulatory frameworks.
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in Fire Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Communication & Engagement: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to effectively advise, negotiate, and collaborate with diverse project stakeholders.
- Constructive Problem-Solving: Proven ability to review designs critically, offer innovative solutions, and ensure practical compliance.
Highly Desirable:
- Professional Registration: Accreditation as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng).
- Performance-Based Design: Strong familiarity with performance-based engineering, fire safety modeling, and alternative solutions.
- Lifecycle Experience: Practical background delivering fire systems advice across active construction and design phases.
- Current Working Rights: Evidence of current Australian working rights will be requested through the application process.
It is expected that the successful candidate will possess strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. They will display initiative, attention to detail, and have the ability to work autonomously and unsupervised whilst contributing to the wider team's objectives of ensuring service delivery exceeds expectations.
