Our Victorian University client is seeking a Technical Officer to support teaching and research within Physics and related STEM disciplines. Reporting to the Technical Coordinator – Physics, you will manage the day-to-day operations of specialized spaces, including PC1/PC2 laboratories, glovebox facilities, and radiation labs, ensuring safe, compliant, and effective laboratory environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of Physics and related STEM labs, including PC1/PC2, gloveboxes, and radiation facilities
- Provide expert technical advice on general instrumentation, compressed gas management, and chemical waste disposal
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, industry standards, and organisational policies
- Develop and maintain critical safety documentation, including SOPs, SWIs, risk assessments, and chemical registers
- Deliver comprehensive laboratory inductions, safety training, and agile day-to-day support to space users
- Maintain laboratory infrastructure, coordinate preventative equipment maintenance, and manage consumable levels
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Physics, Chemistry, or a related discipline (or relevant tertiary sector experience)
- Proven experience operating and maintaining a teaching or research laboratory
- Extensive hands-on experience with general lab instrumentation, compressed gases, gloveboxes, and chemical/biological materials
- Sound understanding of current WHS regulatory requirements and safe work processes
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative, proactive approach to working in cross-functional teams
