Role Overview
As the Leading Hand, you will balance hands-on diesel mechanic work with daily team leadership. You will oversee a team of technicians, coordinate workshop workflow, and ensure all light/heavy trucks and trailers are maintained, serviced, and repaired to high safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Workflow
- Direct, assign, and supervise daily tasks for a team of diesel mechanics and apprentices.
- Act as the technical point of contact for complex diagnostics and troubleshooting on trucks and trailers.
- Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and breakdown repairs on prime movers, rigid trucks, and various trailer types (e.g., flatbeds, drop decks, tautliners).
- Conduct engine, transmission, hydraulic, electrical, and air brake fault diagnostics.
- Complete pre-inspection checks, defect clearances, and roadworthy/safety inspections.
- Ensure strict adherence to Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and maintain standard workshop cleanliness.

Requirements & Qualifications
- Trade Qualification: Heavy Vehicle / Commercial Transport / Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate (or equivalent).
- Experience as a diesel mechanic, ideally with trucks and trailers.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, drivelines, hydraulics, pneumatic air systems, and electronic diagnostics.
